Beyond Green |
The name of this blog, "Beyond Green," alludes to the unfortunate fact that the "green movement" has been tainted by companies that know they can sell more products by marketing them as "green," "eco-friendly," "containing no phosphates [or whatever]", etc., whether the products are free of harmful chemicals or not. These companies are exploiting our strong and growing desire to purchase only products that will not harm us. They are falsely advertising products that still contain harmful chemicals. This applies equally to our well-known brands. Some of these companies are making an effort to remove harmful chemicals, but they are doing so in steps. Others don't intend to reformulate their products--they're just selling them as is, and telling us they're safe. We're a great market...we keep gobbling them up.
I will go as far as to say that 99% of the products I select from the shelf contain harmful chemicals. We have to face it. In 2005, the U.S. either imported or manufactured 42 billion pounds of chemicals--get this--not every year, but every DAY! That's 136 pounds of chemicals PER person in our country PER DAY! Does this help you to see why I say that almost all of our products contain harmful chemicals? Chemicals are cheap to produce, and that makes the products cheap to make. But it also makes them unsafe...very unsafe!
Just pick up any product and read the ingredient label. You'll quickly find ingredients you can't pronounce. That's the first sign that there are chemicals inside...and most of the chemicals have problems.
White Lotus Living is here to make you aware of these problems, and to help you go "beyond green" by providing you with products that have been deemed safer by third party reviews. Unlike some other sites that have been created to provide a similar service, you will not find us adding familiar brands to our site because they are more recognizable to you and easier to sell....and chemical-laden. Many of our products are from smaller manufacturers. You probably don't know them. You may be hesitant to try them, and therefore our sales are slower to catch on.
But we use our products ourselves, and when we test a safe product that we don't think works very well, we won't offer it to you. We're not going to sell you something that doesn't work just because it has safe ingredients in it. We won't last long that way. We're here to offer you the best of the best: products that are safe, that work, and that are reasonably priced as well.
